Final: Reflective Post

Throughout this semester I have learned a lot of important information from the EME2040 class. I have learned many things that will help me in the classroom. I have now began to understand the importance of technology in the class room. Technology helps allow teachers to be able to reach those students who have a hard time understanding the content and allows those who do  understand the content the ability to expand their knowledge on that subject. By adding technology to your lecher and classwork it makes the class more interesting and more enjoyable. I use to believe that technology in the classroom would just be a distraction for the students. 

I enjoyed doing the blog post because it taught me to use hyperlinks. Every since the first blog  post I have used hyperlinks whenever I can in other classes. Also, while doing the blogs post it help me think the ways I would implement it into the class. I was able to discover new education website like edutopia. The discussions were also great because I let us see the different ways that our classmates think. Sometime you could learn new things from them. I enjoy collaborating with the other student on the lesson plan and the wiki assignment. It was cool the collaborate with my classmates using technology to get an assignment done. 

The textbook was great it showed me new ways that technology could improve the teaching and learning in the classroom. The textbook was great because it would provide examples of tools that could be use in each section. I found myself having to use the book for every assignment given. The textbook was easy to read and understand the content. The textbook is a must in order to pass the class.

First, I believe that BYOT (Bring Your Own Technology) is a good thing to have in the classroom because it is a great way to integrate technology into your classroom. I think that it is great because if they bring the technology that they use at home to do assignments to the classroom we as teacher can help use their device to do a better job on the work that they are given in the classroom. When student get home they pull out their device to help them with their assignment so we need to do a good job showing them how to find information. Also when the student bring their devices in you can bring to notice the type of technology each student is able to get their hands on to. So is important that you as a teacher have a good understanding on how to use all kinds of technology because you never know what kind of technology student are capable to access.

 Second,  I think that cooperative learning and group work great things to have in every classroom. By doing cooperative learn the students learn together, and teach each other. During group work the teacher is able to go around checking on each group to give assistance and feedback. The teacher is able to see the information that they were able to gather to see it is reliable information. The student are able to learn from doing because they are doing the research not just copying down what the teacher has written on the broad. The teacher is inputing all the information and the students aren't outputting anything. But it is important for you as a teacher to make sure that all the students are working together because it is easy for students to not do any of the work and still get the credit.

Third, I found the topic of computers as mind tools is every interesting. Student today just use technology to find answer rather than try to use it to learn from it. A student can find information on about anything but student just use it as a tool to find answer when they should be using it to expanded their knowledge. Students must learn with technology not learn from it. Most student go on the internet to learn from it by watching tutorials and playing educational game. Students need to learn with computers to make technology a mind tool.

First, academic content is every important for a teacher. The content is is the fact, concepts, ideas, skills, and understandings they try to share with the students. every teacher must make choices what what content they want their students to learn and leave out any content that they believe is not relevant to what they learning. Teacher will get most of their textbooks, books, and internet resources. technology plays a every important role in helping teachers find what they are going to teach in the classroom. By using the internet search engines, electronic databases, blog, wiki, and other technology tools teachers and student can get new way to research and retrieve information rather than just by your standard classroom textbook.

Second, as a teacher you will be doing a lot of grading so it is important to become familiar with using electronic grading software as a virtual record keeping system. Having a quick way to calculate and record student grades onto a computer is important because that way you can see all the students grade and see the students that are struggling so that you can help them with what they are struggling. Gradekeeper and Easy Grade Pro are a couple of the systems that are purchased by a school district for all the teachers to use. Also teachers can assign a certain percentage value different types of work like tests, quizzes, homework, participation, and more. This important because is sets up how you what your class to work. For example, if you want the classroom to have a lot of participation you will raise the assign percentage for participation from 5% to 10% or 15% to show the students that a go part of their grade requires them to participate in class. Also if an assign percentage is to low students will just not do it because they think that is won't affect their grade. It is important to have a nice balance in assign percentages because you don't what the percentage to be too heavy on a certain percentage for if they fail then they will have to a hard time trying to bring their grade up since that one grade overpowers the rest.

Third, student performance assessment is important to evaluate how you student is doing in the class. This also help evaluate how you are doing teaching your students to determine if you need to change how you are teaching because it is not working. Teachers may do performance assessments in the form of tests or quizzes which test their knowledge on what they are learning in class. But to be able to evaluate student word on class assignments and activities teachers must establish a student performance rubric laying out what skills they want to see the student develop to problems. The rubric tells the student the skill that they teacher wants them to use  to do the assignment.

First, I found the topic of using technology with linguistically diverse learners every interesting. I believe that having the internet is a great thing to use to be able to help teacher educate students who speak another language. Online language translation services like Google Translate are great for teachers to use because it give them a chance to provide all of their lecture in both languages for the student so that they can understand the lecture and so they can begin to connect the English words to the other languages words. Another important thing that teachers should use is multilingual web resources. They need to use them because it gives the student the information in more than just one language. use technology is important because it lets the student take the work home so that they can continue to work when they are home. They can get extra work done on their free time if they want to get better.

Second, I found the topic on the electronic speller and dictionaries an interesting topic. Using those electronic spellers are a great tool to use with the student the don't speak english because it helps them and the teacher. Instead of having the student interrupt the class while time they have a question on a certain word they can type it in their electronic speller and it help them sound out the word which helps build their sounding out skills. And a dictionary can also help the student find other word that are similar to the word they are trying to find. Student also begin to make the connect with the english word and their languages words.

Third, calculators are great tools that students need to learn how to use. Student need to have a good understanding on how to use a basic calculator, a scientific calculator, and graphing calculator by the time they get to college because most of the math they do will require them to be fluent with a calculator. Math is not the only place that you will need to know how to use a calculator. You also need a calculator in science. If you know how to use a calculator math will be easy.

First, I found that problem solving was important topic for teachers. Helping students with their problem solving skills is a great skill for the student to develop because it is a skill that they can put to good use everyday in the classroom. Teaching the students different problem solving skills is a great thing because not all of the students solve questions in the same steps. Some student use different strategies while others use the same strategy but struggle to get the answer. Like in math a lot of times you can solve a problem many different ways it just depends on which one you are more comfortable with. But before all of that you must first be able to understand the problem. You must find out what the problem is asking you to do by connecting the given information with what you all ready know so that you can be able to decide what problem solving strategy you will be using to solve the problem.
Second, computer games are good for lower age student for it makes learning for them more interesting. Digital games for learning are the best way for students to practice what they are learning in the class room. Students can test their skills in the game to see how they are doing. Also with digital learning students can also go home and continue practicing at home on their spare time. Like for math there a whole lot of computer based game the students can play that will give them more practice on their class work. A kid can go and practice his math by playing games because there are many of different math games out there and they test how fast you can answer the question. After a while the student begins to get faster and faster. Free Rice is an example from the book that I use to us back when I was younger an teacher would make challenges on who could get more points at home.

 Third, I found the topic of intelligent tutoring system every interesting because it is something that will help students outside of school when they are on their own a need a little assistance on an assignment. The computer based tutor is like a human tutor for it can provided children with the practice that they need to become better academic learners and test takers. I believe that it is great to have extra help when you at home and can't seem to understand what you are learning. Because in class it is difficult for the teacher to help every single student in the class. Not every teacher has time to answer all of their students questions in the class time. When it comes to math the teacher isn't able to check every students answer and work that they provided. The intelligent tutoring system has shown to be every effective when it comes to math.

First, I found one-on-one tutoring interesting because it is a great instructional method to engage students. I believe that one on one tutoring is the best way for a student to learn. The reason is that a student has no distractions to keep him from interacting. As a teacher you can only do so much to make sure your students understand the material and aren't falling behind. For example, athletes have one coach watch them but the also has the watch the other 30 player too and only has a certain amount of time that he can spent with each player. But a personal trainer can do much more because they spent more time with the player and get to know their weakness and strengths and try to build on them.
Second, I found internet literacy an important topic because it is something that college student need. I believe that teachers need to teach students about internet literacy before they get to college because it is one of the most important thing they need to know when they are writing a research paper or term paper. Many students struggle with this topic when they get to college for the reason that they believe that everything that they find on google is correct and reliable information. They need to learn about the library databases. There is a lot of information out there but we just need to find the right one. For example, the Fsw database is great for research papers.
Third, group work is something the can be added into projects, presentations,  and class assignments. Group work helps the teacher spread out the work among the groups so the teacher doesn't have to teacher each student how to complete the assignment. The students can also help each other figure out the problem since some students are better at certain task than others. Students are able to collaborate in different way during group work. It is important that all of the students are contributing and not just one student is doing all the work.
In conclusion, it is important for students to learn to work together and collaborate new ideas with each other. The best way to help a struggling student is one on one tutoring. As a  teacher you have to keep things interesting for you students.
